What is it about?

Inspired by one of my friends who is in the beauty industry. She owns a beauty brand and currently only has a website.

There seems to be a negative correlation between people owning a clothing business and owning a clothing application. Which is why I decided to make a mockup brand and see what a potential beauty application would look like.

The problem?

Customers come in all different shapes and sizes which is why you provide various clothing sizes. Similarly, users have all sorts of devices ranging from laptops to phones which is why it’s important to cater to the majority.

Having an option for users to purchase beauty products on a website as well as a phone would boost sales and allow for flexibility when viewing the products.

Market Research

In this section I dive deeper into the beauty industry to see what I can uncover. I made sure to do a lot of research about the field to see if there was a gap in the market.

Personas

Creating personas for my project was vital as I wanted to understand what the user needed. I created a few personas whose goals and characteristics represent the needs of a larger group of users.

Empathy Map

Empathy map was useful as it allowed me to dive deeper into the way the user thinks. It helped me to define what is most important to them.

Problem Statement

In this section I explore various problems users are currently facing when using other applications, I also include a vision and methods used to solve these issue.

Sitemap

A UX sitemap is a hierarchical diagram of a website or application, that shows how pages are prioritised, linked, and labeled. Creating one gave me a better idea of how the application will laid out.

User flows

User flows are important, why? You might ask, well when designing products you might use the app in a way which is different to someone else. Identifying the multiple routes a user can take allows for better understanding of the user.

Wireframes

Wireframes are crucial, they help us understand how the user will navigate through the app. I made sure to not only digitally design it but also take the time to draw the wireframe on paper.

View

Low Fidelifty (lo-fi)

Low fidelity prototypes are a step-up from the wireframes adding the interactive element to it, allowing users to understand the navigation throughout the app.

View

High Fidelifty (hi-fi)

High fidelity prototypes are what users will test before the final product is released. The hi-fi should be identical to the final product and should show everything that the app has to offer.

Usability Test

I conducted a usability test to identify how the users interacted with my application. I made user test the application and then I interviewed them after to further understand how they found using the application. Click to see notes on one participant's usability test.
